A day of paddling down the River Hamble. We will be aboard two-person Kayaks taking it easy as we explore one of Hampshire’s’ prettiest waterways; Led by our very own National Trust Ranger who will hopefully be able to point out some of the rivers abundant wildlife as we go. Launching from the public slipway at Swanwick we will head up stream to Curbridge, highlights will also include a picnic on the riverbank (BYO picnic) and a stop at the Horse and Jockey pub for a drink only.
This will be an unguided event, so some experience of kayaking is preferable and all attendees MUST be able to swim; wearing a life jacket is also mandatory. It's a fair distance from swanwick to the top of the estuary, and we will be going up and back so be prepared for a proper arm workout, and a good level of fitness is required.
Please let me know if you have your own two-seater kayak and you would be willing to share, all other equipment will be hired for the price of £35 each for the whole day (£70 per boat). This includes a seat on a two-man sit on top kayak and life jacket. If you have your own boat but no life jacket the cost of hiring one is £5.
It’s a good idea to bring a towel and a change of clothes; swimming gear too, just in case it’s a really nice day and we can take a dip.
There is parking near the slipway, however there are hardly ever any spaces, I would suggest parking at Bursledon Station and taking the short walk down from there.
Due to water traffic we have to limit numbers, I expect this will be a popular social therefore, I require payment upfront within 1 week of booking, otherwise I will release the space once we become fully booked.
