Spring is the best time of year to walk the Mottisfont estate trail, and late April is best of all as the woodlands are putting on their finest bluebell display, the birds are singing full pelt and the season is in full swing. As well as bluebells the wood anemones and celandines will be in flower, some early butterflies may be on the wing (if its sunny) and the trees will be looking their freshest green as their leaves finally burst open after the long winter. This walk takes in pillars of pine, ancient broadleaf woodland, hazel coppice and wetland meadow. There are a few slight inclines and one potentially boggy bit where we cross the meadows of Dunbridge Springs (depends on how much rain we've had). We meet at Mottisfont and Dunbridge railway station, where Southampton trains get in at 10 past the hour on a sunday. Its also on the Salisbury line. If driving, the Mill Arms pub over the road has kindly allowed us use of their back carpark providing we all go in for a drink afterwards - so I'm banking on enough of us wanting to quench our thirst or even hunger at the end to sea this deal. *** Please note, if you do park here please use their back carpark BEHIND the pub, not the tiny one in front***
: Mottisfont and Dunbridge station.
: It is tiny enough that if you end up on the wrong side of the track i will see you, but we are meeting the river side of the railway. If driving, park at Mill Arms pub, Barley Hill, Dunbridge, SO51 0LF. Please park in the carpark BEHIND the pub not in front.
