We'll begin our walk in the historic village of Wickham, setting off along the West Meon Trail – a disused railway line now transformed into a scenic, tree-lined bridleway. The trail offers a gentle gradient and is well-surfaced, making for an easy and peaceful start surrounded by countryside views and woodland stretches.
After a few miles, we’ll branch off the trail to begin a loop around Hundred Acre Wood – a beautiful area of mixed woodland, rich in wildlife and especially vibrant in autumn with golden leaves underfoot. This part of the route adds a little variety, with narrower woodland paths and a more enclosed, tranquil feel. Keep an eye out for deer, birds, and perhaps the occasional glimpse of fungi or other woodland flora depending on the season.
Once we’ve looped through the woods, we’ll rejoin the West Meon Trail and follow it back toward Wickham, retracing our steps along the old railway line and enjoying the changing views in reverse. The full loop offers a mix of open countryside and woodland walking, with mostly easy terrain, and makes for a rewarding circular route.
