Inspired by Richard Strauss's opening fanfare for "Also sprach Zarathustra" (and Stanley Kubrik's usage of it in 2001:A Space Odyssey), what better way could there be to start Valentine's weekend than to watch the Sunrise over the rolling Hills of Hampshire? We'll walk west then south from East Meon, up the west side of Small Down, onto Salt Hill. Here we'll stop to watch the Sunrise (7:15am) and have breakfast. Then we'll loop around to the west following sections of the Monarch's Way and South Down's way. This walk will start in poor light, so you may find a decent torch useful. Please also bring some breakfast.
: Workhouse lane car park, East Meon
: Take the A32 to West Meon, and turn on to West Meon Road, or take the A272 to Langrish and turn onto East Meon Road. From the west, the carpark is on the first road on your right, from the east it is the third road on your left.
