*Ideal for beginners* Starting just outside the city centre, we’ll follow the South Downs Way east towards Chilcomb. We’ll go across gently undulating farmland and through a small patch of woodland within Chilcomb Ranges before heading down Deacon Hill and joining the Pilgrim’s Trail. After climbing St Catherine’s Hill, we’ll come down the steps and follow the Itchen Way into Winchester, passing by the cathedral and walking through town where we can stop for refreshments at the end of the walk. The route has 2 main hills and will be a mixture of tarmac, farmland and woodland trails. We’ll stop for drink/snack breaks along the route, including a rest on St Catherine’s Hill to admire the views. It should take 2.5-3 hours including water/ snack breaks. There’s no lunch stop on the walk, but we’ll finish in the city centre where there’s an abundance of pubs to go for a drink. Parts of the route may be muddy/ wet depending on the weather so please wear walking boots and bring a raincoat as there is very little cover on the walk. Please bring water/ snacks. *Please note the route may need to be changed if the firing range is in use. The start/end point will remain the same.*
