Continuing my series of walks outside our county, this walk is on the Wiltshire-Somerset border. We'll start at the car park near King Alfred's Tower, then walk into Stourton, before striking out to climb Whitesheet Hill (the easy way). We'll then walk to Cold Kitchen Hill via "The Park" gliding club. Turning west we will head for a pub stop in Maiden Bradley via Brimsdown Hill. Maiden Bradley is a good point to drop out if you only want to do a shorter (12.5mi) walk. You should be able to easily get a taxi back to the start. The second half of the walk (or, more accurately, roughly the last two fifths) is mostly in woodland. Gare Hill is the last major hill, then we ridge-walk in cool forest back to Alfred's Tower. For interest, the total ascent on this walk is 2300ft. We will have a lunch stop somewhere between Whitesheet and The Park (about 6 miles in). We will also have a shorter snack stop on Gare Hill (about 15 miles in). Please bring a packed lunch, snacks and plenty of water, you will need it!
